Open Enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace and private exchanges ends March 31, 2014.  This does not mean, however, you are out of luck.  If you have a change of life event, also referred to as a “qualifying event,” you can apply for coverage at that time.  This event is referred to as a Special Enrollment Period or SEP.  The SEP lasts for 60 days from the date of the event.

Qualifying Events include:

  • Marriage
  • Having or adopting a child
  • Moving to a new area that offers different health plans
  • Losing other health coverage
  •           Divorce
  •           Loss of job
  •           Losing Medicaid eligibility
  •           COBRA expiring
  •           Health Plan loses it certified status

If you are already enrolled in the Marketplace and you have a change that alters your tax credit eligibility this also gives you an SEP.

For no additional cost, we can help you select and enroll in a Marketplace or private plan.  If you need coverage before Open Enrollment ends or if during a Special Enrollment Period please contact us.
